My trip to WARWICK UNIVERSITY from Spain |Travel & Study blog

Hello! This post is a big throw back to exactly one year ago, last weekend of February 2017.

It had been less than a week since I have had my wisdom teeth removed in surgery, and my face was still a bit bloated.

However, my mum and I are flying from Madrid to Birmingham.

It would have been nice to visit Birmingham, but that’s not the purpose of our trip:

We are heading to…

University-of-Warwick-new-007

Warwick is one of the best universities in the UK to study Mathematics, so it well-deserved a place amongst my 5 UCAS choices.

On top of that, Warwick was the first university to offer me place, back in October 2016. I remember to be very excited about it and imagine my university life there, for a couple of weeks (when I got more offers!)

Excitingly, I was invited to a day-course at the Mathematics Department of Warwick University. The course was preparation for STEP, which I worked on almost everyday for six months (January to June 2017).

Maths apart, I was very eager to visit the university. Surprisingly, it is not located in Warwick city, but in a medium sized city called CoventryWhere-is-Coventry-map-England-640x435

We slept there both nights. 56427_4_334_IMG_21_0000

Saturday was the day of the course, so I had a 10min bus ride to the University campus.

(These pictures aren’t mine, it was a much colder day and eventually rained.)

After a walk through the campus, I finally got to the Mathematics Institute…

It was founded in 1965. Mathematicians Ian Stewart ,one of my favourite maths writters, Sir Christopher ZeemanDavid Epstein and Fields Medallist Martin Haire, work or have worked there in the past.

We had a couple of 2 hours long sessions doing maths, I met nice people, and improved my confidence solving university-alike questions. I was also very pleased to be gifted these textbooks by the university…175a3c37-017d-4940-b4f7-a413dd629b22

I used them as a reference for the material not taught in Spain, but which I had to prepare for STEP. Now, a year later, I can tell that they were very effective, not only because I got the grades I needed, but also because I am finding myself confident enough at my first year courses Probability and Dynamics & Relativity at Cambridge University!

After all, it was worth-travelling there!

My mum and I also travelled to Warwick city, by train, that evening.warwick-castle-westside

It was very dark (and cold) and we were only able to see the famous castle from the outside.

And we had fish and chips for dinner, a very British meal!

On our last day, we explored Coventry, and flew back to Madrid!

It was a great experience, and perhaps at some point in the future I will be at Warwick University either studying or working!

I hope you enjoyed this post! Don’t forget to hit the like button and suscribe for more university-life (sometimes maths) blogs!

Today’s question is…Would you like to study or live abroad?
